Hello! It’s been about a month and a half since my last email update. There’s a lot I could share but we’ll keep it to the main points.
Monthly showcase kicks off on Friday

A new show kicks off this coming Friday at The Deep End, hosted by me and improviser/theater arts performer Megan Galley. Lots of artists with a variety of skill levels are coming together to make this show a thing, and my aim is to keep it accessible as it grows.
For this first show, six artists/groups will each perform a piece based on this month’s theme, death and dying.
This event will be a good opportunity to meet other artists and find out how to be featured in a future event. Come join us, or mark down third Fridays as the monthly recurrence of INTERMISSION: a show for artists of different mediums and skill levels to express and connect.
New Underground Gallery show starts on art walk

I have teamed up with KZAX music director and multidisciplinary artist Moon Blomgren to get our next underground gallery show up and running at Make.Shift.
This community show featuring 10+ local artists opens in the Make.Shift basement on November First Friday. Most of the work comes from the perspectives of a variety of artists who have experienced chronic illness and/or who are gender nonconforming, and the work explores the challenges of existing in these mortal forms.
If you’re interested in contributing work to an underground gallery show sometime, a few things to know:
- This is a DIY space, so all artists are responsible for their own work. You can be part of the set up and you will need to collect your work at the end.
- If your work is to be for sale, it will be sold directly through you.
- It’s great if you are able to hang out in the venue during art walks while the show is up to connect with people who see your work.
- These shows are what we make them so it’s ideal when participating artists are able and willing to help promote them, and to bring their own creative ideas to the project.
The next one will be coming up in January–February and will be an expansion on the theme of Plastic Angst. Ask me if you’re interested to know more, though you can expect more on that later.
Dakota Art’s 6×6 community show
Speaking of Make.Shift, they have been hurting for funds and recently had to cut staff. One way to help support them is to check out Dakota Art’s upcoming annual 6″ x 6″ fundraiser show, where community members have contributed hundreds of pieces on 6″ squares which will each be for sale for $25.
It’s always a fun show to check out and it will be opening November 6.
I contributed the maximum allowed number of pieces with this little trifecta of acrylic paintings. I call them “Holes 1, Holes 2, and Holes 3.”

You can also support Make.Shift by donating to them directly.
When will The Deep End be open?

You can count on me being open during First Friday Art Walk, and having a monthly event on third Fridays.
What else? The best way to check is either via this email list, or to walk by my location at 301 W Holly M5 and check the posting outside my door that looks like this.

A lot of these dates above are in the past already so I’ll be updating this bulletin soon. Insider knowledge has it that I’ll be hosting a show featuring touring artist Frank Hurricane as well as some local gems on Thursday November 12. More on that soon.
I haven’t even told you about all the new art I’m working on … that will have to wait for the next update.
For now, I’ll leave you with this mixed media piece I made all the way back in 2012, which is currently featured in Make.Shift’s black cats benefit show. They recently hosted a few adoptable black cats for the day to prowl the venue from Neko Cat Cafe downtown.
The title is CATACLYSM.

Thanks for reading today’s update, and if you have any follow up questions or would like to schedule an appointment to view my gallery, you can respond directly to this email.
Peace,
Adrien
